Social Security News
The U.S. Congress is hinting at raising the retirement age for full Social Security benefits to the age of 70, again. This change has been talked about before. Representatives from both sides of the isle, in an amazing bipartisan push, are talking about the possibility, as reported in an article by David Lightman of "McClatchy Newspapers", Friday, July 9, 2010. Even talking about changing Social Security has been the kiss of death for politicians in the past. No one denies the national debt is unsustainable, even the politicians that set the debt in motion.
As usual, the politicians are floating trial balloons out to the public by way of innuendos to see what reactions occurs. Raising the retirement age is being considered because people who are to receive retirement benefits in the next ten to 20 years will not be immediately affected. People born in the 1960s and after will not realize what has happened to their full retirement dates for years.
